Drama
Whether students aspire to careers in the performing arts or wish to build confidence and public speaking skills, Drama at King’s High offers something for everyone. We believe Drama not only captivates and inspires audiences but also hones vital transferable life skills for those who study it.
Drama is a popular choice at A Level, with over 80 students currently pursuing it at examination level. These courses build on foundational skills developed in earlier years, deepening techniques for creating, performing, and analysing drama. Students benefit from workshops, masterclasses, and trips throughout the year, as well as collaborative courses and productions with Warwick School's drama department, with whom the A Level is jointly taught.
Our Autumn Term Production is a highlight of the year, offering students the chance to work intensively with staff and professional designers. Performances, held in Warwick Hall in partnership with Warwick School, showcase the students’ drive and talent as they perform to the highest standard.
The department offers a wide range of enriching experiences, including workshops and masterclasses with renowned theatre companies such as Highly Sprung, Frantic Assembly, and The National Theatre Connections Festival. Students have performed at prestigious venues such as the Warwick Arts Centre and the Royal & Derngate Theatre in Northampton.
Sixth Form performance award students take on leadership roles by running drama clubs for younger pupils. Collaborative opportunities abound, including Altiora—a physical theatre group in partnership with Motionhouse—and the Saturday morning Foundation Youth Theatre.
Theatre visits are a key feature of our Drama programme, with students enjoying trips to see a variety of genres throughout the year. Residential weekends in London and international trips, such as a joint visit to New York with Warwick School, further enrich the students' experience, broadening their appreciation of drama on a global scale.
