A Sense of Community
Social Responsibility
At King’s High, we are deeply committed to cultivating a sense of social responsibility in our students, embedding this ethos throughout school life via a range of impactful activities.
We are passionate about supporting local primary and secondary schools, fostering strong relationships through initiatives such as online safety awareness workshops, and gifted and talented sessions in PE, Drama, Music, and Science, as well as Cookery. As a link school with Clare College, Cambridge, we help inspire educational scholarship and ambition in Years 5 and 10. Last year, over 80 Year 5s and 34 Year 10s from various schools benefited from this programme. Additionally, many of our Sixth Formers mentor younger children, providing invaluable in-class support.
Our outreach extends globally through a special partnership with a school in Alchauna, India, where our Lower Sixth students spend a week each year teaching and engaging with the community. Closer to home, we share a close partnership with Evergreen School, a broad-spectrum special school with around 300 pupils. Together, as part of the Warwick Schools Foundation, we collaborate on projects that provide enriching experiences for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
One of our flagship initiatives is the Foundation’s enhanced Holiday Action Programme, which offers 15 weekly places to children with SEND during school holidays. King’s High students and Evergreen staff join forces to support activities like swimming classes, go-karting, and craft sessions. Recognizing the need for greater inclusivity, we partnered with Let’s Play, a disability playgroup in Oxfordshire, to create a fully inclusive holiday playgroup based at Evergreen School. This programme, supported by King’s High and Warwick School students, alongside experts from Let’s Play and Evergreen, caters to children with complex needs.
While the costs for such tailored provision are high due to the required staff ratios, we are fortunate to have the tremendous backing of The King Henry VIII Trust, one of Warwick’s ancient charities. King’s High students undergo comprehensive training before joining the programme through our bespoke in-house course, which covers modules on autism, safeguarding, first aid, and activity planning.
These initiatives reflect our commitment to making a difference - locally, nationally, and globally - while equipping our students with a lifelong sense of empathy, leadership, and responsibility.
Charity Initiatives
Funds are raised for a wide range of charities, including Guide Dogs for the Blind, Macmillan, and Amnesty International, with popular annual events such as the ‘Amnestea’ initiative. Other impactful efforts include the Christmas Shoebox Appeal for underprivileged children, Children in Need, collections for Ronald McDonald House at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, and cookery events supporting Myton Hospice.
Students across all key stages nominate the charities they wish to support, organizing a variety of fundraising events such as talent shows, food sales, and even a charity mixed netball tournament with the boys of Warwick School. These activities highlight the creativity and enthusiasm of our pupils in making a difference.
Community Engagement
Our students actively participate in community-based initiatives, fostering meaningful connections and making a positive impact. Through our partnership with the charity Kissing it Better, King’s High students visit Warwick Hospital, where they brighten patients’ days through entertainment, conversations, and shared memories.
As part of our Friday afternoon activities, students from both King’s High and Warwick School take First Aid courses, alongside training to develop empathy and caring skills.
We also have a cherished relationship with our neighbours at Park View Nursing Home in Warwick. Our students regularly visit to entertain and engage with residents, playing games and sharing stories, creating moments of joy and connection.
These initiatives reflect our commitment to nurturing compassionate and socially responsible individuals who are dedicated to making a difference both within and beyond their community. True Changemakers.
